Victoria is the best place to garden and landscape in Canada!

We are blessed to live in the banana belt of Canada and to be able to grow thousands of varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers.  It can often become overwhelming to choose from such a great palate of colors, textures and forms.

There are a number of philosophies for landscaping on the west coast.  One of which is the "Garden Rooms" concept.

The starting point for your new landscape is how you may use it?  How much time will you spend out doors and what do you like to do?

Now think of each activity as having a room.  Are you looking for a place to meditiate or do yoga?  they you may take a corner of your property and go japanese with some maples, bamboo and maybe a small water feature.  Or how about a gazebo or bench with an English style garden surrounding it.  Perhaps a hot tub or a private place with narrow conifers, ferns to create a "edge of the forest" type settings.  Then consider a sub-tropical place, perhaps out front to feel like you are in California, Arizona or Florida.

Create your own paradise.  For ideas and inspiration, visit the Boutchard Gardens and we stronlgy recommend Finerty Gardens at University of Victoria.  Also, don't forget to look at our section on local designers and landscapers.
